In celebration of the Minnesota Orchestra’s Season Opener, The Museum of Russian Art presents an exhibition exploring the enduring magic of Igor Stravinsky’s The Firebird.

Inspired by the Russian folk tale that gave rise to Stravinsky’s groundbreaking ballet, the exhibition brings together a unique selection of lacquer boxes, hand-painted balalaikas, nesting dolls, porcelain, and book illustrations from TMORA’s permanent collection. Together, these works illuminate the rich visual traditions surrounding the mythical Firebird and the story that has captivated artists, composers, and audiences for generations.

Among the works on view are illustrations from an edition of The Firebird featuring an English translation edited and introduced by Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis.

The exhibition is presented in conjunction with the Minnesota Orchestra’s Season Opener, featuring Stravinsky’s The Firebird and Prokofiev’s Piano Concerto No. 2 with Van Cliburn Competition gold medalist Vadym Kholodenko. The exhibition may be viewed before the concert and during intermission at Orchestra Hall.
