A favorite TMORA tradition returns! Join us the night before Halloween for Baba Yaga: Storytime After Dark, an evening of stories, folklore, music, and tradition centered around one of the most fascinating figures in Slavic folklore.

Known both as a fearsome witch and a wise woman, Baba Yaga embodies a fascinating dichotomy: she is both a figure of terror and a source of wisdom. Her stories have been told and retold for generations—and on October 30, we’ll gather in the museum after dark to hear some of her tales.

The evening will also feature Nitka, TMORA’s folk performance group dedicated to studying, preserving, and interpreting the female communal culture of old Russia. Rooted in 19th-century village traditions with far more ancient origins, Nitka performs circle dances, singing games, work songs, ritual songs, and more, preserving an intangible heritage that reaches far beyond the 19th century.

Tea and sweets will be served throughout the evening.

This isn’t your childhood storytime—it’s Storytime After Dark, created with grown-ups in mind. Baba Yaga-inspired attire is most welcome!
