The Mother of God of Vladimir

This work is a repetition of the most venerated Russian icon, Mother of God of Vladimir, whose images could be found in every Russian church and almost every home. This image differs from other icons of the Mother of God of Vladimir in that Mary is shown wearing a headscarf that is decorated with pearls. The delicate pale colors with bright cinnabar highlights chosen by the icon painter reveals his knowledge of the Western style of rococo, as well as adherence to local icon painting traditions.
