Statelessness and Refugees: Human Rights Crises Today

Tuesday, June 20, 2023 from 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm

World Without Genocide will host this webinar on Tuesday, June 20, 2023, 7:00-9:00 pm CT on Zoom.

“Without a nationality, a person has no right to have rights.” -Hannah Arendt

Hannah Arendt was stripped of her German citizenship by the Nazi regime. Today, nearly 12 million people worldwide are without citizenship. Being stateless makes a person unable to access housing, healthcare, employment, education, and legal justice.

This webinar explores statelessness in present-day crises affecting the Rohingya, people of former Soviet republics, Haitian refugees in the Dominican Republic, Syrian refugees, and people caught up in the war in Ukraine.

Karina AmbartsoumianClough, a stateless person from Soviet Ukraine, is the Executive Director of United Stateless, an organization advocating for human rights for stateless people. She will discuss the nearly 200,000 stateless people in the US and the jeopardy they face by having no citizenship.

Register by Tuesday, June 20, 6:00 pm CT.

This is a live webinar and no recording will be available.

The program is open to the public: $10 general public, $5 students and seniors, $25 for MN lawyers for 2 ‘elimination of bias’ CLE credits, and clock hours for teachers, nurses, and social workers. Free to Mitchell Hamline law students.
