Designed by Alexander Benois, this menu is decorated in the elaborate Russian Revival style, featuring the Kremlin wall and behind it, Ivan the Great Bell Tower, whose bells traditionally announced the coronation day. Over the beautifully inscribed menu is the shield with the symbols of Imperial power: the crown, the orb and the crossed sword and scepter toppled by the Imperial double-headed eagle. Flanking the shield are the Assumption Cathedral of the Moscow Kremlin, where coronations of Russian tsars took place, and the Cathedral of St. Basil the Blessed on Red Square. On the left border is the orthodox cross, containing the inscription “Moscow May 15, 1896.”

The coronation banquet of May 15, 1896, took place on the day after the coronation.
