The Current Russia-Ukraine Relationship

A major conflict in Europe presently is the continuing struggle over the Donbass region, the distribution of gas supplies through Ukraine, and Russian and Ukrainian economic and political relations.  This discussion will examine the viewpoints from different national definitions and seek to determine if a peaceful long-term solution is possible.

Featured Panelists
The Honorable Steven Pifer – Steven Pifer is a nonresident senior fellow in the Arms Control and Non-Proliferation Initiative, Center for 21st Century Security and Intelligence, and the Center on the United States and Europe at the Brookings Institution, and a William J. Perry fellow at the Center for International Security and Cooperation at Stanford University.  He is the author of “The Eagle and the Trident: U.S.-Ukraine Relations in Turbulent Times” (Brookings Institution Press, 2017), and co-author with Michael O’Hanlon of “The Opportunity: Next Steps in Reducing Nuclear Arms” (Brookings Institution Press, 2012).  He served as United States Ambassador to the Ukraine from 1998 to 2000.
