Anastasia Edel is a Soviet-born American writer and social historian and the author of Russia: Putin’s Playground, a guide to Russian history, politics, culture (and Putin).

Her writing has appeared in The New York Review of Books, The New York Times, Los Angeles Times, Foreign Policy and others. She has contributed political and cultural commentaries to CNN, PBS, NBC, BBC and MSNBC, and is a frequent guest speaker at colleges and universities.
