Grand Opening: The Wintertime Carnival
Saturday, November 4, 2023 from 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm
Free – $14
Join us in ushering in TMORA’s largest holiday exhibition in its history! Drawing on the Museum’s rich collection of holiday ornaments and memorabilia, The Wintertime Carnival presents the story of winter holidays during the reign of the Romanov dynasty and the Soviet era. In a country with a heavily politicized public sphere, New Year was the only non-ideological annual holiday that retained its magic throughout the bleakest years of the Soviet regime.
Spanning the entire Main Gallery of the Museum, this exhibition will reveal how a winter holiday was celebrated in a country that banned Christmas, as well as all other religious holidays.
The evening will include open viewing of all galleries, live music by Twin Cities Hot Club, and remarks from the Curator and Executive Director. TMORA Shop will be decked out in its full holiday spendor. Sweet, festive treats will be available for your enjoyment. Beverages will be available for purchase. Please join us. Free for TMORA Members!
