The Russian-Ukrainian Ongoing War: Roots, Causes, Stages, Prospects
A Presentation by Dr. Oleksandr Komarenko
Join us for an insightful lecture presented by Dr. Oleksandr (Alex) Komarenko, Associate Professor of the Faculty of History at Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv and Visiting Associate Professor at the University of Minnesota for 2024.
Dr. Komarenko will delve into the key components of the centuries-long and intertwined relations between two East-Slavic peoples – the Russians and the Ukrainians. The lecture will journey from the creation of the first united East-Slavic state in 882 AD, known as Kievan Rus’, to the current full-scale war between Russia and Ukraine. By tracing the historical developments, challenges, and paradoxes over more than a thousand years, Dr. Komarenko will provide a comprehensive understanding of the complex dynamics that have led to this devastating conflict.
This event offers a unique opportunity to gain a deeper perspective on the historical and contemporary factors influencing Russian-Ukrainian relations, highlighting the historical fatality of what has become the bloodiest conflict in the Post-Soviet space.
