Beginning Russian Language Classes – Winter/Spring Session
Saturday, January 9, 2021 from 8:00 am - 5:00 pm
The Museum of Russian Art presents the Winter/Spring Session of Beginning Russian Language courses (via Zoom).
Beginner’s level starts with learning the Russian alphabet and phonetics, as well as the development of basic reading skills, providing the knowledge of basic grammar patterns and vocabulary. The courses cover essential aspects of everyday life, such as meeting people, getting around the city, shopping, visiting restaurants, using transportation, expressing intentions, speaking by phone, and communicating in social media. These courses will enable students to communicate in a variety of situations. Class size will be limited to 10 students for each beginning-level course. Textbooks and workbooks are not included in tuition. Students will order the textbook and workbook prior to the first day of class. The goal of this course is for students to be able to greet others, introduce themselves and ask for basic information.
Beginning Level – 2 (Morning Session)

January 6 – March 10Wednesday evenings5:30 – 7:30 PMThe goal of this course is for students to be able to speak more extensively about themselves and their hobbies, and to be able to express their likes and dislikes. Students will also learn the days of the week and the seasons. Prerequisite: Beginning Level 1 or proficiency test. Applicants should know the Russian alphabet and be able to read and understand simple words, be able to name objects, know simple greetings and responses, and be able to conjugate Russian verbs in present tense.
Beginning Level – 4

The goal of this course is for students to expand vocabulary for daily interaction, to correctly apply basic grammar rules, and to practice simple conversations. Prerequisite: Beginning Level 3 or proficiency test. Applicants should be able to read and understand the Russian alphabet, name objects, know simple greetings and responses, be able to talk about their hobbies, as well as their daily routine and family. Applicants should be able to conjugate Russian verbs in present and past tenses and know numbers from 1 to 200.
ABOUT THE INSTRUCTOR:
Elena Epshteyn was born in the USSR and graduated from the Belarusian State University with a degree in Russian Language and Literature. After she moved to the US, she taught at North Hennepin Community College and Russian- American school Klassika, as well as privately. Besides focusing on Russian Grammar, she emphasizes the importance of learning about Russia and its culture. She also holds an MBA in Marketing from the University of St. Thomas.
