Spindle, Loom and Needle: Textile Production in Old Russia

Location: TMORA Main Gallery

TMORA curator Dr. Maria Zavialova will deliver a PowerPoint presentation exploring the history, meaning and cultural significance of traditional Russian textiles, focusing on the regions and artifacts on display in A Homespun Life: Textiles of Old Russia.

Following the 50 minute lecture, special spinning and weaving demonstrations by artists from the Textile Center of Minnesota will bring these age-old folk arts to life! Attendees may ask questions of the artists and tour all three current TMORA exhibitions with museum docents on hand to answer questions. Those interested in textiles, Russian history, or traditional culture won’t want to miss this fascinating evening.
