Panel Discussion on the Russian Painting Style of Nicolai Fechin at The Museum of Russian Art

TMORA hosted an artist-focused lively panel discussion on Russian painting styles in connection with the museum’s current Nicholai Fechin exhibition.

Four accomplished local contemporary painters with widely varying practices Bryan Young, Chris Wilcox, Jehra Patrick and Jaron Childs — some familiar with Fechin’s work, others just introduced to it — responded to the show. They discussed the general practice of painting, the specific achievement of Russian masters in paint handling, the influence of Russian masters on their own work, and more. Drawing from their experiences, they brought fresh insight into a remarkable body of work in a discussion geared towards their fellow artist peers.

The evening was moderated by Salon Saloon host and MinnPost columnist Andy Sturdevant.
