Born in the USSR: Paintings of Childhood and Youth | Main and Mezzanine Galleries
March 4, 2017 – September 10, 2017
The exhibition Born in the USSR: Paintings of Childhood and Youth presents approximately sixty works created during the latter part of the Soviet era. Portrayals of schoolchildren in uniforms, young pioneers with ubiquitous red ties, working children, and more, uncover the rich story of the visual representations of childhood and youth developed by Soviet artists. The exhibition focuses on diverse interpretations of what it was to be a child in Soviet Russia. The paintings in this exhibition are drawn from the Raymond and Susan Johnson collection of Russian Art, the collection of Jack and Pam Safar, the collection of Loren and Jill Bough, and other American private collections. Several pieces on display belong to the ever-growing permanent collection of The Museum of Russian Art. The Museum gratefully acknowledges the contributions of our lenders and sponsors.
