(doors open at 6:30 pm)
This exciting program will feature music of J.S. Bach, Astor Piazzolla, Hiromi Uehara, Maria Kalaniemi, Alberto Ginastera, and Modest Mussorgsky, guiding listeners through a musical tour of six different countries and five different centuries, from 15th century Balkan music to modern jazz.
ABOUT THE QUARTET: With its superior imagination, artistry, and musical mastery, the Minneapolis Guitar Quartet has made its case as “one of the major guitar ensembles in the world” (Soundboard Magazine) since its formation in 1986. As one of the very few guitar ensembles performing the majority of its repertoire from memory, the foursome—Joseph Hagedorn, Maja Radovanlija, Ben Kunkel and Wade Oden—moves with ease through original works for guitar quartet to its own brilliant arrangements, and from major commissions to unexpected collaborations.
This activity is made possible by the voters of Minnesota through a Minnesota State Arts Board Operation Support grant, thanks to a legislative appropriation from the arts and cultural heritage fund.
